LOCATION: The Andes, Chile, and Argentina
BGC examined historic and future glacial changes and corresponding technical and legal impacts for several mining operations in the high Andes of Argentina and Chile. Specifically, BGC has investigated aspects such as glacier dynamics, morphology, hydrology, and the effects of mining-related and natural dust on ice bodies and how this affects ablation (ice loss through melt and sublimation) rates. This has then been assessed considering concurrent climate change in an attempt to isolate and address potential mining-related impacts.
