CLIENT: Victoria Gold Corp.
LOCATION: Central Yukon, Canada
This project involved exploring for and establishing a sustainable groundwater supply to support processing at a proposed gold mine in central Yukon. Exploratory drilling conducted in 2011 indicated a productive bedrock aquifer underlay portions of the site. In 2012, a 560 usgpm supply well, screened in metasedimentary bedrock, was constructed at the site using dual rotary drilling methods. To evaluate surface/groundwater interactions, a 14-day constant rate pumping test was carried out. The pumping test results were also used to verify the transient calibration of the site-wide numerical groundwater flow model and to numerically predict potential impacts from long-term groundwater extraction at the site. Similar groundwater supply development projects have been completed by BGC staff for many other mining camps and sites over the years.
